What kind of Dogs are these ???

The Mi'kmaw First Nations Peoples from Eastern Canada had a Domestic dog, called L'mu'j  !!!

They look amazingly similar to your Dog Takoda, ... which in our traditional language should be spelled, ... Takota !!!, ... with a "T" on the last syllable !

... We don't have a "D" or a "G" in our language, ... we have a "T" with a "D" sound and a "K" with a "G" sound

"Takota", ... means, Friend or Ally !, ... which I'm sure you already Know !

:)

... and on the subject of Native American Languages, especially my Nation the Mi'kmaq, ... L'mu'j is a Mi'kmaw Word, ... part of the Alquonkian Language Family, and this is a "Verb" based language.

so every word is a description of something Animate or in-animate !

L'mu'j in our language means, ... "the one who goes home !"

... a characteristic of domestic dogs, the ability to find his way home !

One of our Mi'kmaw Elders, Ernest Johnson, from Eskasoni, said   " that's why a dog will leave a piece of his fur near the door ! ... so it can pick up the scent and find his way home !!!"

gloade.deviantart.com/art/Mikm…

my painting of a Mi'kmaw Hunter with Mi'kmaw hunting dogs, L'mu'j

before the age of photography artists used to travel with the explorers to paint pictures of what they saw, these were Ethnographic Artists

many of the paintings that depicked Mi'kmaw life had paintings of the dogs in them

and those dogs look like your dog !!!

tce-live2.s3.amazonaws.com/med…

... same colour, same size, ... curled tail !!!

... and I just thought I'd ask ! ... What kind of Dogs are these ???

Wow, I'm so flashed!

Yes, I knew that Takoda (now I know, that it is spelled Takota, thank you!) means Friend, thats why I choose this name. :) I thought that it fits well. I never heard of L'mu'j before.. Can u tell me more about them? How are they? Can you tell me something about their nature/ Charakter?

I found Takoda on the streets in Greece, he was a stray. I know nothing about him. :) Amy is the Malinois of a friend.

I find it fascinating that the Native Canadian dog and the Grecian street dog look almost alike, and it makes perfect sense. This the appearance of any dog type, anywhere in the world, given long enough with no specialized outsourced breeding. These are "pariah dogs" or what happens due to the "drag of the race".
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pariah_d…
If people don't breed dogs to look differently, each generation of dog gets closer to that appearance. Dingoes are feral examples. But even the street dogs in parts of the US begin to lean that way in appearance. Very quickly the tail curls up. They often start out a few generations of black dog because black is a dominant trait (black Labs mix in much of the US population of dogs), but given enough time they all turn buff or fox colored.

Great.. I thought about this. Some time ago someone said, that she like my dog, because he Looks so natural. Not to big or to small, the fur not to Short or to Long.. She was right. He is very natural. His behavior too.

I like that description. :)

He's not "too" anything, he's just right!

Your dog is the definition of the natural dog. :)

... The L'mu'j  doesn't exist anymore !!!, ... just found in old Historic paintings !!!

that's why I was excited to see your dog ! ... it looks like the "Real-Life L'mu'j" of the paintings and of our Mi'kmaw Culture.

they say it takes 5 generations to domesticate a wild animal !

they say the L'mu'j was a cross between a Fox and a Coyote, ... or in Mi'kmaw the "Wowkwis" and the "Paqtism"

your dog looks like he has Fox markings around the face , belly and tail, even with the dark colour around the mouth, only in the colours of the Coyote !!!

plus he has a curled tail with the tip of it coloured, ... just like a foxes tail !

I think it's fitting that you gave it a Native American Name !!! ... Takoda !, ... nice touch !!!

... does he ever Howl ???

"Paqtism" in Mi'kmaw means "the one who echoes" !

they were breed specially as hunting dogs, very attentive to the chase

... is your dog very persistent and focused when playing ???

Takoda dies not hunt. He dont like toys or something like that. When he plays its always with his body.

He never howls. He never bark. He is very quiet, doesn't "talk" much. :) But he talks with other dogs, with his Body or Face. We never met a dog he didnt like and every dog understands him. He is never agresssive, nor was ever a dog agressive to him.

cool looking dog though

if I ever saw one look like that I'd want one

just for the Cultural connection part of it !

i bet a lot of other Mi'kmaw would feel the same way too

and again, love your choice of name !

I don't know whether the idea of the L'mu'j being a cross between fox and coyote is meant to be taken literally? It could be half true. Foxes cannot interbreed with coyotes or dogs, but coyotes can interbreed with dogs. So it's possible the  L'mu'j had some coyote in them (no fox) but they wouldn't have had to in order to look that way. Many dogs around the world have a similar coloration and appearance. (I wrote a long comment about it above in reply to the photographer). Your historical and language knowledge is fascinating!

Even though the L'mu'j is extinct, there are still some ancient breeds of dog similar in appearance used worldwide for hunting.

cool !

I thought they bred foxes with other dogs to get different varieties of colours for the fur industry  !

like black and silver foxes

They get all those fox colors from mutations within the fox species. If you Google mutations and foxes or fox coat color you can find some really interesting stuff if you're curious. :)
